Roadrunners pick trio for ‘Hall’


YOUNGSTOWN — Dan Shields, Ted Rupe and Gary Camp have been named this year’s inductees for the Youngstown Road Runners Club Hall of Fame.

The club will sponor a banquet in their honor on June 9 at 6:30 p.m. at Birch Hill Cabin in Mill Creek Park.

Shields joined the Youngstown Road Runners Club in 1997 and served as president from 1998-2000 and 2002-08. He has run numerous races both local and national.

Among Shields’ accomplishments are the Youngstown State University Scholarship Fund and The Shoe Program which gives free running shoes to local cross country students who’s parent’s cannot afford them.

Shields also holds the title as Road Runners Club of America State Representative.

Rupe has been the winner of the Cleveland Revco Marathon and countless road races in the ‘80s. He is the cross country coach at Maplewood High and has been honored as Ohio High School Coach of the Year.

Rupe has been race director at The Peace Race in years past.

Camp continues to support the new generation of runners with his volunteerism, advising, cheering and knowledge.
