UNCASVILLE, Conn. — Lindsay Whalen scored 21 points to lead four teammates in double figures Saturday and Connecticut defeated Sacramento for its first 3-0 start in franchise history. Connecticut made a season-high 14 3-pointers, including 10 in the second half. Barbara Turner scored 17 for Connecticut, while Amber Holt had 15, Asjha Jones scored 12 and Tamika Whitmore added 11. Sacramento (1-3) closed the deficit to nine points early in the fourth, but Whitmore and Turner hit consecutive 3s to give Connecticut a more comfortable lead. Rebekkah Brunson led the Monarchs with 19 points. Kara Lawson had 12 and Ticha Penecheiro had 10 points and five assists.

Silver Stars 87, Storm 72

SAN ANTONIO — Sophia Young scored 23 points and Becky Hammon added 20 for the Silver Stars. Hammon, who came into the game in a shooting slump, made 6 of 15 shots from the floor, including 4 of 10 from 3-point range. Helen Darling added 14 points and Ann Wauters had 10 for the Silver Stars (2-1), who defeated the Storm for the sixth straight time. Swin Cash scored 15 points to lead Seattle. Reigning WNBA MVP Lauren Jackson had 14 points and seven rebounds in the Storm’s first loss of the season in their fourth game.
