Second Chance Animal Shelter plans motorcycle run fundraiser for June 1
staff report
AUSTINTOWN — The Second Chance Animal Shelter of Austintown will hold its 6th annual motorcycle run fundraiser with registration starting at 10 a.m. June 1 at Quaker Steak and Lube, 5800 Interstate Boulevard.
The run will leave the restaurant area, at state Route 46 and Interstate 80, rain or shine at noon. It will last about three hours.
A $25 registration fee covers the cost of the ride for rider and a passenger, plus dinner at Quaker Steak and Lube for both that afternoon. Anyone not going on the run can still join the dinner from 3 to 5 p.m. for $10 per person.
Also planned are a Chinese auction with many Harley-Davidson prizes donated by Thunder Harley Davidson of Sharon, and a 50/50 drawing.
The nonprofit group Second Chance Animal Rescue, which runs the shelter, was founded in 2000 to give care to abandoned, abused and injured animals.
The shelter is located in the garage of a house in Austintown. It provides a place for 100 cats awaiting adoption and is staffed by about 30 volunteers. Its funding comes from donations.
The shelter also assists with low cost spay/neutering and feral cat trapping as funding permits.
Cats are shown by appointment only or can be viewed on the Internet at secondchanceanimalrescue.org.
The organization is looking for additional volunteers to work three hours per week, either in the morning or evening.
Two to three volunteers work together during each of the three-hour shifts each day.
