Heritage Presbyterian to celebrate merger

POLAND — This Sunday, Heritage Presbyterian Church on 1951 Mathews Road will be celebrating its first anniversary of the merger between John Calvin/St. Paul United Church of Christ and the Brownlee Woods Presbyterian Church. The church will also celebrate the first communicant’s class where young people will be joining Heritage Presbyterian. Sunday service begins at 10:45 a.m., and all are welcome to attend.

Bishop Murry will ordain Henyk into priesthood

YOUNGSTOWN — On May 31 at 10:30 a.m. Christopher Henyk, originally from Trzcianka, Poland, will be ordained into the priesthood by Bishop George V. Murry, S.J., at St. Columba Cathedral. Mr. Henyk finished his pastoral year at Blessed Sacrament Parish in Warren and will be performing his first Mass at St. Mary and St. Joseph Parish in Newton Falls on June 1 at 11 a.m.

Merger is approved for St. Mary, St. Joseph

NEWTON FALLS — The approval of the merger between St. Mary Parish and St. Joseph Parish in Newton Falls by Bishop George V. Murry, S.J., became effective at the beginning of May. The parish, which is now called St. Mary and St. Joseph Parish, is at 131 W. Quarry St. Rev. Maciej Mankowski was appointed as pastor of the newly merged parish.

Austintown Baptist has holiday service today

AUSTINTOWN — A Memorial Day service will be at Austintown Baptist Church today at 10:30 a.m. The service is to honor the military and those who have had family members that have died. The public is welcome to the service, and there will be a fellowship luncheon afterward. Austintown Baptist Church is at 1180 S. Raccoon Road.

Villa Maria center to start book club

VILLA MARIA, Pa. — A monthly book club at the Villa Maria Community Center will begin June 11. The book club will meet once a month, on the second Tuesday, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Members will meet in the Mother Madeline Room on the grounds of Villa Maria Community Center and discuss current fiction and related topics.

Books from the New York Times Best Seller list will kick off the book club and then books will be chosen based on member interest. The sessions will be facilitated by Barbara Lenarcic, HM, and books can be bought at a discounted price from The Villa Shoppe.

Advanced registration is required, but there is no fee for the program.

Bethel Friends plans outreach project

POLAND — Bethel Friends Church is having a community outreach project for a second year to give families a way to save on their grocery bill.

For $30, people can buy a box with enough food to feed a family of four for a week and a senior citizen for a month. Contents of the box would cost an average of $50 to $75.

The church will accept cash, money orders, or food stamps, and orders may be placed at the church from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday from June 2-13. There are no income requirements, and anyone living in Poland, Struthers, New Springfield and surrounding areas can participate.
