Director publishes new guide

NORTH CANTON — Brother Marcel Sylvestre of Walsh University, who is director of Mission Project Service and Brother of Christian Instruction, published the seventh edition of Agencies for Development Assistance for those involved in pastoral work or development projects in the Global South.

Sylvestre’s book has information on 326 agencies from 26 countries that are willing to provide aide to groups in Africa, Asia, Latin America, islands of the Pacific and several countries of Eastern Europe and the Middle East that need assistance.

Agencies for Development Assistance also provides information concerning identifying needs, selecting proper agencies, preparing and presenting proposals, budgets, reports and evaluations.

The Mission Project Service was established in 1974 by Maryknoll Father George Cotter. Sylvestre joined in 2005 and then became the director two years later.

Sylvestre, who is also the Mission Outreach Coordinator for the American Province of the Brothers of Christian Instruction, will be visiting some Youngstown Diocese in the upcoming weeks.

On Friday and June 1, he’ll be at St. Charles Church in Boardman and June 7 and 8 at St. Matthias and Holy Name Churches in Youngstown.
