staff report

BOARDMAN — The Boardman Kiwanis and Angels for Animals Fun Pet Show will be June 1 at Boardman Township Park.

Children in fourth, fifth, or sixth grade can enter to show their pets for a chance to win a trophy based on judging. Parents are required to sign a release form, and pets must be well behaved and have all proper vaccinations.

The show begins at 1 p.m. Those showing pets should arrive by 12:30 p.m.

There will be winners in categories including best purebred dog, best mixed breed dog, best cat, best small pet, best costumed pet, most loved pet and best in show.

Animals will be judged by how well they are groomed, their mood and other physical attributes.

John Finley, member of the Boardman Kiwanis and pet show organizer, said all pets are welcomed. He said judges would even consider a horse if one attended.

“The only pet we don’t accept is a pet rock,” said Finley.

Admission is free and is sponsored by the Boardman Kiwanis. Judges are provided by Angels for Animals.

Applications can be obtained from Boardman Park, 375 Boardman-Poland Road; Boardman Kiwanis; or Angels for Animals, 4750 state Route 165, Canfield.
