Warden, Salcedo advance in Div. I district tennis

OBERLIN— Scott Warden and Robert Salcedo of Boardman High won two doubles matches and earned a semifinals berth in the Division I district tennis tournament at Oberlin College Thursday.

In the first round, Warden and Salcedo topped Jason Schrode and Andrew Korba of Solon, 6-2, 6-4, and then they beat Curtis Lockhart and James Oliver of Cleveland St. Ignatius, 6-7 (14), 7-6 (5), 6-2.

The Boardman duo will take on Chris Crampton and Tom Swartz of Shaker Heights in the semifinals Saturday at Tri-City Park in Rocky River. Championship and third place matches will follow.

The top six teams will advance to the state tennis tournament at Ohio State University’s Stickney Tennis Center next weekend.

The Division II district finals will also be contested, at Canton’s Weis Park.
