Boardman 16, Fitch 2

AUSTINTOWN — Boardman’s Dan Kubala hit a three-run home run in the eight-run sixth inning to break the Federal League game open. He also hit a single and finished with five RBIs. Mike Popio of the Spartans (17-10, 9-5) hit three singles, scored twice and drove in four runs as Boardman completed its season and finished in a two-way tie for second place with the Falcons in the league standings. Chad Kobylanks of Boardman hit a double and two singles, while Chaz Sanfilitto hit a pair of singles and scored three times. Nick Dinello hit two singles and scored twice. Winning pitcher Joe Strawinski (5-0) worked five innings and struck out nine to pick up the win. Jimmy Kinnick’s two-run double gave the Falcons (14-10, 9-5) the lead in the bottom of the first inning.

SOFTBALL

Boardman 9, GlenOak 3

CANTON — Shannon Morrow had three hits, including a double, and drove in two runs to lead Boardman (15-11, 5-6 Federal League). Julie Olbrych added two hits and Lizzie Padgitt homered. For GlenOak (9-17, 3-10), Heidi Mueller had two singles and an RBI.

Lake 5, Fitch 2

UNIONTOWN — Lake built a 5-0 lead by the end of the fifth inning and the Falcons couldn’t recover. Samantha Kozbial hit a two-run home run for Fitch. Nikki Van Riper hit a double and single for the winners.
