No Moody blues: Lakeview leaper captures long jump


ANDOVER — Lakeview’s Ben Moody won the long jump with a leap of 21 feet, 4 inches and the Bulldogs’ 4x800 relay team placed first to help the team grab second place in the team standings after four events of the Division II district track and field meet Thursday at Pymatuning Valley High School.

Lakeview’s relay team consisted of Heath Harris, Corey Brown, Jay Hickey and Tyler Ames. Teammate Clint Hess placed second in the discus.

Steve Woodyard of LaBrae was third in the discus and the Vikings placed fourth in the 4x800 relay.

Ashtabula Edgewood was in first with 39 points, while Lakeview had 31.

On the girls side, Girard’s Aysha Nickels placed first in the shot put with a throw of 38 feet, 7 1/4 inches.

Casey Watson of Lakeview placed third in the shot and the Bulldogs placed fourth in the 4x800 relay.

Emily Potter of LaBrae was second in the high jump and Chakyla Merriweather finished fourth.

LaBrea’s Kelsie Daniel was fourth in the shot.

Edgewood was also in first in the girls team standings.

The top four in each event advance to next weekend’s regional meet in Ravenna.
