BASEBALL

Boardman 11, Canton McKinley 1

CANTON — The Spartans (16-10, 8-5) had a five-run sixth inning to dominate the Federal League game. Mike Popio hit a double, two singles, scored twice and drove in two runs for the Spartans. Joe Strawinski hit three singles, scored once, stole two bases and drove in three runs. Kevin McCulloh hit a double, single, scored once and drove in three runs. Nick Dinello hit a pair of singles, stole a base and scored twice.

Southeast 7, Akron Springfield 6

RAVENNA — The Pirates (9-16), behind 5-0, rallied for four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, tied it in the seventh and got the deciding run in the ninth. Matt Bright (1-0) worked three innings in relief to pick up the win. Anthony Cionci and Greg Lemley each hit a double and single for the Pirates.

SOFTBALL

Southeast 12, Triway 1

ALLIANCE — Shannon Hamilton (16-1) pitched a three-hitter with seven strikeouts in helping the Pirates (21-5) to the Division II district championship and a berth in next week’s regional tournament at Akron Firestone. Danielle Kaley went 4-for-4 with a double to spark the Pirates. Tricia Williams went 3-for-3, scored twice and drove in two runs. Ali Austin hit a single and double and scored twice and drove in two runs. Alyssa Biltz hit two singles and drove in two runs.

In a semifinal game Tuesday, Southeast defeated Fairless, 2-1, as Hamilton scattered six hits.
