Poland man charged with assault
STAFF REPORT
POLAND — A village man is to appear next week in Struthers Municipal Court accused of felonious assault, resisting arrest and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Edward Williams, 42, of Hamilton Avenue, was arrested Tuesday night by village police. He will appear in court May 28.
Police were called to Williams’ home about 8:45 p.m. and met Williams’ parents, who live on the same street. The couple told the officer that their son had done damage inside the home. Police also were told that Williams was under the influence of alcohol and had a knife.
Williams opened the garage door and was standing inside. Police ordered him to remove his hands from his pockets, but Williams took a fighting position, a police report said.
When approached by police, Williams started backing up toward the door to the house. He pulled a box cutter from his pocket, the report said.
Williams approached the officer with the knife before going into the house with the officer following.
He fought with the officer inside before a neighbor who heard the scuffle helped the officer handcuff Williams.
At the Mahoning County Jail, deputies who searched Williams found suspected marijuana and a possible homemade pipe in his clothing.
