43 YSU athletes graduate


The school broke the record for students with 4.0 GPA.

YOUNGSTOWN — Forty-three Youngstown State University student-athletes earned their degrees in this spring.

Forty-one of the student-athletes earned a 4.0 grade-point average, an all-time high for the athletic department, while 56-percent achieved at least a 3.0 GPA, also an all-time high.

Spring graduates were: John Barber (men’s basketball/track), Rory Berry (football), Lauren Branson (women’s basketball), Megan Bricker (softball), Tessa Brookman (soccer), Karlie Burnell (softball), Brandon Caipen (baseball), Amanda Cindric (volleyball), Byron Davis (men’s basketball), John Foster (football), Jessica Fraley (volleyball), Lou Gattozzi (baseball), Vince Gliatta (football), Justin Green (football), Blake Halverson (football), Kim Hanley (swimming), Amy Hill (track and field), Krystle Hively (tennis), Jennifer Jennings (soccer), Joe Juby (football), Matt Kishman (football), Nick Kruse (track and field), Zach Landgraf (men’s tennis), Sean Lucas (baseball), Kira Mowen (women’s basketball), Joe Nicholson (football), Josh Page (baseball), Kyle Penrod (baseball), Bob Perez (football), Kyle Romig (men’s golf), Jessica Schloemp (women’s basketball), Kelli Sheibley (softball), Britta Snowberger (soccer), Andrew Svitak (baseball), Jon Tekac (football), Emily Thayer (tennis), Jason Trapp (tennis), Mike Turjanica (baseball), Andrew Weizer (track), Christi Williams (soccer), Jeremiah Wright (football/track), Ashley Yager (golf) and Tom Zetts (football/track).

Elyse Healey, a marketing and sports information intern, graduated Magna Cum Laude, and also receiving a degree was Rob Bole, who worked in the equipment room.

Thirteen graduated with honors: Branson, Bricker, Caipen, Fraley, Mowen, Page, Perez, Sheibley, Snowberger, Thayer, Weizer, Yager and Zetts.
