Oldest bowler honored

Dave Miller, 96, was presented with a pewter plate — inscribed with the year 2008 —for 60 years of bowling on Thursday nights at Bell-Wick Bowl and, previously, at the old Hubbard Lanes.

He received the award at the Kelley-Robb Classic banquet recently.

Miller, born Aug. 10, 1911, is the oldest bowler in the Greater Youngstown Bowling Association.

F V Fireworks overcame a 299 game by Prudential Insurance’s Jack Ulansky to win the Boardman Businessmen’s League’s 2007-08 championship.

Prudential won the second quarter while F V won both first and third quarters. The league’s newest team, Ohio Sports Spine, won the fourth quarter.

The 12-team league just completed its 46th season.

F V was led by Jamison McCombs’ 655 roll-off score. Other team members were: Jeff Feezle, Phil Frame, Ricky Martin and Joe Zimmerman.

Other Prudential members were Floyd Barron, Joe Cetor, Casey Kuntzman and Chuck Straub.

Ohio Sports Spine finished third comprised by the fivesome of Joe Erjavic, Dave Koszaj, Dan Roberts, Todd Terlizzi and Aaron Tuscan.

Bill Artz edged out Mike Dohar for top average, 219-217. Dick Marlowe’s 213.91 was third followed by Barron’s 213.72.

The league’s most improved award went to Barron, who increased his average by 11 pins (202-213).
