Man shot in head; police investigate

staff report

YOUNGSTOWN — A man was shot in the head on the city’s North Side and taken to nearby St. Elizabeth Health Center just before 7 p.m. Saturday, and police were investigating two locations.

The first location was on the south side of Broadway just west of Covington Street, and the second was two blocks to the north on Fairmont Avenue, just west of Covington.

At the Fairmont location, an unoccupied tan, four-door Chevrolet Impala with Ohio license plates was parked on the north side of the street with its rear windshield shot out, and the entire street was cordoned off around the car.

Police Lt. Mark Milstead said the shooting occurred near Broadway and Covington, and that a car containing three people was shot at. The car’s occupants may have been shooting at someone who returned fire into the car, he said.

Police recovered two handguns from the mother of the shooting victim, Milstead said, adding that the victim was reported to be alive as of 8 p.m. and that no suspects were in custody.
