Lists of vacation Bible schools open to the public will run on the Religion page. Please include the following information: the complete name of the church; address with city or township; time, date and location of sessions; program theme; ages or grades; and whether it’s free or there is a fee. Information should be submitted two weeks before the school’s opening or its reservation deadline.

First Friday Club
BOARDMAN — The First Friday Club of Greater Youngstown will meet June 5 at Antone’s Banquet Centre, Market Street in Boardman. Featured speaker will be the Rev. Thomas W. Tifft, president-rector at St. Mary School of Theology, Diocese of Cleveland. His topic will be “Popes of the 20th Century.” The luncheon/lecture is from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost is $15. Land retreat offered
VILLA MARIA, Pa. — Villa Maria Education and Spirituality Center will have the “Life, Land and the Spirit Retreat” June 12-15 with leaders Sister Barbara O’Donnell and Frank Romeo, director emeritus of land management. Participants will explore the ecological diversity of Villa Maria in the program that also will offer Eucharist, land tours, nature walks, presentations and time for reflection on the whole Earth community.

Workshops on grief
MINERAL RIDGE — Catholic Charities Regional Agency will sponsor four workshops on “How to Help Yourself Through Grief” at St. Mary Church, 3504 Main St. Sessions, scheduled from 5 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays, will be June 3, the grief process; June 10, the grief journey and key feelings; June 19, losses and complications of grief; and June 24, “What Else Do I Need to Know?” Register by calling (330) 744-3320.
Speaker for anniversary
YOUNGSTOWN — Beulah Baptist Church, 570 Sherwood Ave., will mark its 80th anniversary with a program at 4 p.m. May 25 featuring the Rev. George Wilkins, pastor of Mount Sinai Baptist Church, as speaker. The theme is “Those that be planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God.” Psalm 92:13. The program is free and open to all.
Memorial service
WARREN — Trumbull Memorial Hospital will have its annual ecumenical memorial service in honor of the patients who passed away while hospitalized at Trumbull Memorial Hospital in 2007.
It will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Church, 185 Laird Ave. Invitations have been sent to the families of the deceased, but the event is open to all. A brief reception will follow the service.
Former chaplain to speak
YOUNGSTOWN — The Rev. Dr. Paul Coleman will return to Christ Church, 1933 Canfield Road, to deliver a sermon, “In Memoriam,” for a Memorial Day-related service at 10:45 a.m. May 25. He served as a chaplain in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Gospel choir to perform
NEW CASTLE, Pa. — Calvary Temple Worship Center’s Created to Praise, a gospel choir, will perform at 7 p.m. Sunday at Epworth United Methodist Church, 805 E. Washington St. The children’s choir also will perform.
Concert at church
YOUNGSTOWN — Mahoning United Methodist Church, 2214 Mahoning Ave., will present Jim and Shirley Tubbs in concert at 10:45 a.m. Sunday. The duo, who will share a gospel message in music, have been touring since 1984 and visited 48 states and 17 denominations. A free-will offering will be taken.
Service to honor military
COLUMBIANA — Jerusalem Lutheran Church, 415 S. Main St., will have a service to honor all U.S. military veterans and servicemen and women in Iraq and Afghanistan at 10 a.m. May 25. Corp. Benjamin Corey will be guest speaker.
He will present the church an American flag that was flown over the Marine Corps base in Fallujah, Iraq.
Building fund programs at Faith Temple Church
CAMPBELL — The deacons, trustees and congregation of Faith Temple Missionary Baptist Church, 125 Roosevelt Drive, will host programs for the building fund. Mary Hall, pastor of Fifth Avenue Community Church in Youngstown, will speak at 4 p.m. Sunday. Ralph Newell, pastor of Jesus’ Church-Faith Christian Center in Farrell, Pa., will speak at 4 p.m. May 25. The Rev. Walter Gillespie Jr. is pastor.
Drive-in outdoor services
ANDOVER — First United Meth odist Church of Andover, 181 S. Main St., will sponsor the drive-in outdoor services for the 36th year. Services are scheduled at 9:30 a.m. May 25 through Aug. 31 at Wildwood Acres Campgrounds, intersection of state Route 7 and Marvin Road. Special music will be by Dan Schall of Dan Schall Ministries on June 29 and God’s Quad on July 27.
Participants may sit in their cars or bring their own chairs. Some seating is provided.
Infant Jesus of Prague
HUBBARD — Infant Jesus of Prague Guild will meet Wednesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 367 N. Main St., for the rosary at 9:30 a.m. and Mass at 10.
Sharon church events to mark 100 years
SHARON, Pa. — Cedar Avenue Church of God, 1045 Cedar Ave., marked its 100th anniversary with a series of programs this week leading up to weekend activities.
A gala will be tonight in the Radisson of Sharon, Shenango Township. The Rev. Dr. Michael A. Smith, a former church pastor, now pastor of Community Church of God in Atlanta, will be guest speaker.

The celebration will conclude at 5 p.m. with Bishop Timothy J. Clarke, former pastor of York Avenue Church of God, Warren, Ohio, now pastor of First Church of God, Columbus, as speaker. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall.
