Springfield, Ursuline, South Range advance
NEW MIDDLETOWN — Morgan Fagnano scored on a passed ball with one out in the sixth inning Wednesday to give the Springfield High softball team a 3-2 victory over East Palestine in a Division III tournament game.
Junior Erica Burkey (10-8) had nine strikeouts in tossing a four-hitter for Springfield.
Sophomore Ashley Davis had two singles, junior Rebecca Evan doubled and Fagnano, a junior, had an RBI single for the Tigers (12-10).
Jesse Gamble, Jess Cavanaugh, Becky Bollinger and Maria Timonina had hits for East Palestine (6-15.).
Springfield beat Palestine in two regular-season games, 11-1 and 10-0.
Ursuline 4, Brookfield 1
YOUNGSTOWN — Winning pitcher Casey Lower (14-5) retired the first 19 batters she faced. She finished with a two-hitter with 17 strikeouts and no walks.
Nikka Bonamase hit a RBI triple then scored on a passed ball for the Irish (16-6).
Kasey Foley doubled and scored while Lower and Miranda Carkido also doubled.
For the Warriors (5-16), Kody Brenner and Stephanie Van Meter singled in the seventh inning.
Ursuline advances to play at Girard today at 4:30 p.m.
South Range 12, Crestview 0
GREEN TOWNSHIP — Megan Beachley’s two hits included a three-run homer to end the five-inning game. Beachley also doubled as the Raiders (12-10) move on to play at Lisbon today at 4:30 p.m.
Tabitha Stanton had two doubles while Autumn Carter doubled to drive in three runs.
Laura Biroschak’s two hits included a double as she brought home three baserunners. Emily Seman’s two hits included a double.
Madison Yanek (5-5) struck out nine batters and walked two.
Division II Canfield 6, Liberty 0
CANFIELD — Tricia Bettura (11-2) tossed a two-hitter, striking out 12 for the Cardinals (17-4-1).
Brittany Danilov and Bryanne Halfhill each had three hits, Rachel Melewski tripled and Amanda Colonna doubled.
Canfield advances to the Jefferson district and will play the Lakeview-Jefferson winner on Tuesday.

ASHTABULA — The only run came in the bottom of the fourth inning as Christina Hutchison of Lakeside (14-5) bested Emily Purnell of Fitch in a pitchers’ duel.
Hutchison allowed only two hits, with 10 strikeouts to pick up the win.
The Falcons’ (10-11) scattered three hits with six strikeouts. Stephanie Berdis and Jena Baun hit a single apiece for Fitch.
