Mooney 10, Struthers 4

YOUNGSTOWN — The Cardinals (20-4) built a 7-1 lead by the end of the second inning and cruised from there. Winning pitcher Drew Fitzpatrick went 3-for-3 with a double. Tim Marlowe hit three singles. Mike Vitucci and Dom Larrica each hit a double and single for the Wildcats (13-11).

Boardman 8, Canton McKinley 7

BOARDMAN — Eric Walters’ two-out bases-loaded single scored Kevin McCulloh with the winning run. McCulloh had three hits and scored three times. He pitched the final two innings to earn the win. Dan Kubala had two hits for the Spartans (14-8, 7-4 Federal League) while pinch-hitter Pat O’Brien drove in two runs with a bases-loaded single.

Lake 6, Fitch 5

AUSTINTOWN — The Blue Streaks (11-10, 6-5 Federal) rallied for four runs in the top of the seventh inning. T.J. Howsare hit a two-run double and he scored during the rally. Mike Chack also doubled. The Falcons (10-8, 7-4) were led by Nick Wiery who singled, stole two bases and scored once. Mike Olenych, hit by the Lake pitcher twice, hit a pair of singles and scored three times. Jim Kinnick and Chad Burbrink each hit two singles. Kyler King hit a pair of singles for Lake.

Southeast 3, Crestwood 2

MANTUA — Eric Fleming’s single scoring Matt Bright from first base in the top of the eighth provided the go-ahead run. In addition to Fleming’s RBI hit, Anthony Pennington had a double and single. Andy Hartman and Greg Lemley each had a double for the Pirates (7-14). For Crestwood, David Czerny had two singles, Tony Zambatoro had an RBI-single and Cory Turnbull singled.

SOFTBALL

Hoover 1, Boardman 0

NORTH CANTON — Boardman freshman Alexandra DiDomenico (4-3) tossed a two-hitter, giving up an unearned run with six strikeouts and a walk, as the Spartans (13-9, 4-5) nearly earned the Federal League upset. Hoover (20-2, 8-1) scored its run in the first inning on a hit batter, a wild pitch and the game’s only error. Jessica Simpson (19-2) struck out 10 and walked one to get the win.

Western Reserve 9, Southern 0

BERLIN CENTER — Senior Brittany Boyer tossed a no-hitter, striking out 10 and walking four. Chelsea Korda’s three hits drove in three runs for the Blue Devils (14-7, 12-2 Inter Tri-County League Tier Two). Two of her hits were doubles. Heather Monoski had three hits and scored three runs. Boyer, Elizabeth Srock, Ellie Sanders and Kailyn Mowery doubled.
