Hubbard girls, Lakeview boys champs

CHAMPION — Hubbard High junior Michele Starkey won two individual events and was part of two winning relays, helping the Eagles edge Lakeview 135-127 for the girls conference title at Tuesday’s Trumbull Athletic Conference track and field meet at Champion High School.

Starkey won the 800- and 1600-meter runs and was part of the winning 4x800 and 4x400 relays. The 4x800 relay set a stadium record.

Senior Katoria Carter set a stadium record in the 400 and was part of stadium record-breaking 4x400 and 4x200 relays. She also scored a victory in the 4x800 relay.

Hubbard also won the 4x100 relay.

Other winners included Newton Falls freshman Jennifer Bjelac (100 hurdles, long jump), Newton Falls freshman Destiny Prusky (300 hurdles), Newton Falls senior KaiCee Kubicina (set stadium records in the shot put and discus), LaBrae sophomore Allorian Horne (100, 200), LaBrae junior Emily Potter (high jump) and Lakeview senior Jamie Legendre (3200).

On the boys side, Lakeview junior Ben Moody set stadium and meet records in the 110-meter hurdles (14.20) and added a victory in the long jump to help the Bulldogs run away with the team title.

Heath Harris added a win in the 1600 and Tyler Ames won the 3200 as the Bulldogs edged Hubbard 160-110. Ames and Harris also teamed up on the winning 4x800 relay, which set a stadium record.

Other winners included Hubbard senior Robert Wigfall (100), Hubbard sophomore Andre Givens (200), Champion junior Tyler Day (400, 800), LaBrae junior Anthony Walker (300 hurdles in a stadium-record time), Champion sophomore Andrew Austin (high jump), LaBrae junior Nathan Fenstermaker (shot put) and Hubbard junior Zack Lord (discus).

Wigfall and Givens were on two record-setting relays: the 4x200 set stadium and meet records while the 4x100 set a stadium record. The Eagles also won the 4x400 relay.
