The Realty Building has long been a landmark in downtown Youngstown:

1923: Realty Guarantee Trust Co. announces plans for $500,00, 12-story structure to be known as the Realty Building.

1924: Realty Building, designed by local architects Morris Scheibel and Edgar Stanely, is erected on Hine property.

1955: Gale-force winds rip almost the entire roof off Realty Building spreading debris onto E. Federal Street during a storm that caused an estimated $50,000 in damages to Youngstown.

1961: Realty Building is purchased by William Cafaro and Marvin T. Itts. As new owners they would spend $200,000 on renovations, including automatic elevators, new entrance and lobby, and cleaning all the brick.

1963: Realty Building is home to District 26 Headquarters of United Steelworkers of America.

1980: Placed into the National Register of Historic Places, being noted as one of Youngstown’s buildings with the finest architecture, along with the Metropolitan Tower.

1984: Realty Building becomes Renaissance Square and gets modernized by J.J. Cafaro in a multimillion-dollar restoration.

2000: Purchased by developer Lou Frangos of Cleveland.
