Council agreed to meet just once a month over the summer.

EAST PALESTINE — The cost of swimming at the city park pool is increasing this summer.

On Monday, council amended the city’s parks and recreation ordinance to raise various swimming rates. The change reflects the first increases at the pool in at least three years, city officials said.

Daily swimming admission went from $2.50 to $3 for students and from $3.50 to $4 for adults. Season passes went from $75 to $100 for individuals and from $100 to $150 for a family of five.

Families with more than five members will be paying $150 for the first five members plus $15 for each additional person. Senior citizen rates were increased from $50 to $60 for individuals and $70 to $80 for couples.

Children’s swimming lessons were raised from $3.50 to $4 per child per day. The cost for attending youth camp went from $1.50 to $2 a child.

Council also amended an ordinance that addresses ambulance and emergency service fees to include an $85 charge for nontransport services. Nontransport services could include situations where an individual receives some form of medical care from emergency personnel but is not transported by ambulance to a medical facility, officials explained.

In other news, council changed the date of its next meeting from May 26 to May 28 because of Memorial Day. The meeting will be at 7 p.m.

Council also agreed to meet once a month this summer, canceling its second meeting of each month, unless otherwise announced.

Council will meet as scheduled June 9, July 14 and Aug. 11. The meetings for June 23, July 28 and Aug. 25 are canceled. Officials said they are open to scheduling special meetings if needed.
