BOARDMAN — A Boardman man was killed and his passenger injured when the motorcycle the pair was riding struck a truck being driven by a man charged with DUI in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

This past weekend marked Myrtle Beach’s Harley-Davidson spring motorcycle rally.

A report from the Myrtle Beach, S.C., police department said Angelo Gonzalez, 44, of Forest Park Place, who was operating the motorcycle, was pronounced dead at the scene Saturday night. His passenger, Susan Reader, 36, of Meyers Avenue, Boardman, was taken to a Myrtle Beach hospital, where she was in the intensive care unit late Monday afternoon.

The motorcycle hit the truck, which was making a left turn on the highway.

The truck driver, Michael Hilton, 56, of Myrtle Beach, was charged with two counts of felony driving under the influence and failure to yield.

The 10-day rally typically draws about 200,000 people to the 60-mile stretch of beaches, police officials said.
