Articles of impeachment filed against Dann
The Ohio House Democratic Caucus filed nine articles of impeachment today against fellow Democrat, Attorney General Marc Dann, accusing him of misconduct and malfeasance in office.
Top Democrats and Republicans have called on Dann to resign after an internal attorney general investigation detailed a hostile and unprofessional work environment in the office.
Dann is refusing to resign and is fighting efforts to impeach him.
The articles of impeachment were sponsored or cosponsored by 42 of the House’s 46 Democrats, including all members of the Mahoning Valley delegation.
The articles accuse Dann of malfeasance, improper exercise of authority, nonfeasance, gross neglect of duty, neglect and gross immorality.
Also today, the House State and Local Government Committee approved amending a bill permitting the inspector general to investigate the attorney general and his office.
Most of the Democrats on the committee voted against the proposal.
Republicans, who control the House and thus have more members on the committee, rejected a Democratic amendment to have the investigation finished within 60 days.
The committee also tabled a Democratic amendment requiring the attorney general’s office to foot the bill for the investigation. That proposal said the investigation could cost up to $250,000.
