Warren Relay for Life raises about $461K

WARREN — The American Cancer Society’s Warren Relay for Life, the largest single relay in Ohio in 2007, raised about $461,000 this year, or $10,000 more than last year.

Some 1,600 cancer survivors participated in the honorary first lap around Courthouse Square on Friday evening to begin the 24-hour event that ended at 6 p.m. Saturday.

With 175 teams participating, each with 10 to 15 members, and accompanied by friends and family members, Dr. Robert Brodell, Warren relay founder, estimated that 20,000 people may have taken part in the relay sometime during the 24-hour period.
