Ursuline, Poland split; Boardman, Fitch fall

Miranda Carkido, Anna Donko and Jessica Yarab wielded big bats for the Irish.

CHARDON — Miranda Carkido contributed a double, two singles and three RBIs to lead the Ursuline High softball team over Lorain Brookside, 10-7, Saturday at Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin High.

Anna Donko had two singles and three RBIs while Jessica Yarab produced a double, two singles and two RBIs. Nikka Bonamase tripled and singled to aid the Irish.

Starter Casey Lower (13-5) and reliever Sara Marr combined to pitch a six-hitter.

Brookside is 14-7.

In Ursuline’s second game, a 7-2 loss to Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin (20-1), Nicole Baitt (3-0) pitched a six-hitter for Cathedral Latin.

Shannon McVey had a double, single and two RBIs while Dani Ramos had two singles and one RBI to spark the winners.

Bonamase had two singles for Ursuline (15-6).

Poland 11, Stow 0

STOW — Liz Maher hit a grand slam and a double to drive in five runs for the Bulldogs.

Allie Patton had three hits including a double and she scored twice. Winning pitcher Jordan Palumbo (6-1) struck out 11 and walked one. She also doubled.

Stow is 16-6.

Cuyahoga Falls 1, Poland 0

CUYAHOGA FALLS — Mackenzie Mank tripled and scored the winning run in the eighth inning for Cuyahoga Falls (15-4).

Maher tossed a three-hitter for Poland (17-7), striking out three and walking none. Patton’s double in the fourth inning was the only hit off Amber Myers (15-4).

Upper Arlington 3, Boardman 0

BOARDMAN — Courtney Martin doubled and Audrey Plant tossed a two-hitter with nine strikeouts for Upper Arlington (15-8).

Katie Hawkins’ double and Brooke Meenachan’s single were the Spartans’ hits. Kelsey Ford (7-6) struck out eight batters in tossing a seven-hitter.

Magnificat 5, Boardman 1

BOARDMAN — Mary Hyland’s two hits included a double for Magnificat (18-6). Brianna Woody homered.

For the Spartans (13-8), Shannon Morrow homered and doubled and Angela Martin had two hits.

Walsh Jesuit 6, Fitch 1

CUYAHOGA FALLS — For the Falcons (10-10), Carly Ortz doubled and singled.

Southeast 4, Alliance 1

WATERLOO — The Pirates (18-3), behind 1-0, scored three runs in the sixth inning and one in the seventh.

Danielle Kaley (5-3) scattered five hits to pick up the win. Alyssa Biltz hit a double and drove in two runs. Ali Austin also hit a double.

Taylor White hit a pair of singles for the Aviators.
