KSU eyes visitor center for 1970 shootings
KENT (AP) — Kent State University is raising money to build a new visitor center that would help tell the story of the deadly Ohio National Guard shootings on campus 38 years ago.
Four Kent State students were killed and nine were wounded in 1970 when students held a series of anti-Vietnam War protests.
To build the visitor center, the university has applied for a $75,000 planning grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities and is seeking donations to cover the project’s estimated cost of $1 million.
Officials say the center would have multimedia presentations about student unrest and how it fit into the larger story of the Vietnam War.
The school already has a memorial to the four students killed.
