Discount drug cards

COLUMBUS — The Ohio Drug Card Program will distribute free discount prescription drug cards to Ohio residents. There are no age or income restrictions and no application to fill out. Prescription savings average 30 percent and can range up to 75 percent or more, program officials said. Participating pharmacies include Kmart, Rite Aid, Walgreens, CVS/pharmacy, Meijer, Discount Drug Mart, Marc’s Pharmacy and thousands of independent pharmacies.

The drug card can be downloaded and drugs priced by visiting www.OhioDrugCard.com. Anyone not able to access the Web site, can go to any Kmart Pharmacy in Ohio, which will process the prescription through the program.

Mental health for members of military

WARREN — May is mental health month. In observance, Trumbull LifeLines and the Trumbull County Suicide Prevention Coalition are sponsoring two programs focusing on returning military personnel and their mental health issues Monday at the Trumbull Metropolitan Housing Authority.

From 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., the workshop will present the strategic and tactical components of a psychotherapy model for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and the mental health problems of returning military. The cost is $10.

From 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., a second workshop, which is free and open to the public, will feature Dr. Edgardo Padin, chief clinical psychologist at the Cleveland Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Call (330) 675-2765.

Senior centers honored

COLUMBUS — Gov. Ted Strickland has proclaimed May 11-17 as Ohio Senior Center Week to recognize the work that senior centers, their staff and volunteers do to enrich lives and strengthen communities.

State of education is topic for gathering

HOWLAND — Ohio Grantmakers Forum, The Raymond John Wean Foundation, Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley, the Youngstown Foundation, The Ashtabula Foundation, Conneaut Community Foundation and the Robert S. Morrison Foundation will convene a conversation about the state of education in our region of Ohio at noon Monday at the Avalon Inn resort and Conference Center, 9519 E. Market St.

Registered guests for the session include dozens of respected leaders in education, public policy, nonprofit organizations and faith-based organizations, including Youngstown State University President David Sweet and Humility of Mary Health Partners Senior Vice President Molly Seals will serve on the panel.

The Mahoning Valley event is part of a statewide conference entitled: “ Beyond Tinkering: A Conversation about Education and Ohio’s Economic Future.”

Healthy families program

NILES — The Mahoning Valley Covering Kids and Families Coalition is helping to enroll uninsured and under insured families in the Healthy Start/Healthy Families, a comprehensive and free health coverage program. The enrollment will take place on the following times and dates at St. Joe’s at the Mall, located next to Sears inside the Eastwood Mall: 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday; 9 a.m. to noon, May 24; and 1 to 4 p.m., May 29.

Participants will need to bring Social Security numbers of all family members; copies of pay stubs for the most recent month, and copies of other insurance information (if applicable). Call (800) 324-8680 to determine if your family is eligible.

Coronary award

WARREN — Trumbull Memorial Hospital recently received the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines – Coronary Artery Disease Silver Performance Achievement Award. The award recognizes TMH’s commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of cardiac care that effectively improves treatment of patients hospitalized with coronary artery disease.

Skin cancer screenings

WARREN — Free skin cancer screenings, conducted by the Humility of Mary Health Partners Cancer Centers in collaboration with the American Cancer Society and the American Academy of Dermatology, will be offered from 6 to 8 p.m. May 20 at St. Joseph Cancer Center, 667 Eastland Ave. S.E. Healthy and fit

YOUNGSTOWN — The Jewish Community Center of Youngstown, 505 Gypsy Lane, is offering a presentation and question and answer session on “Be Healthy Fit” Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m. with Dr. M. Shayesteh as guest speaker. Dr. Shayesteh is a board certified nutritionist and diabetes educator and weight loss specialist. Refreshments will be served.
