Trustee gives update on Springfield projects

SPECIAL TO THE VINDICATOR

NEW SPRINGFIELD — Springfield Township Trustee Robert Orr recently reported on the schedule for water, sewer and gas line construction in Petersburg.

Orr said state Route 170 will close for road work after July 4 from the Ohio Turnpike to Knesal Hardware Co., 14139 Youngstown-Pittsburgh Road (Route 170). He said access will be maintained for local residents. The area is scheduled for drainage work in preparation for the intersection upgrade.

He said the Ohio Department of Transportation is giving the contractors 83 days to complete the work.

Orr said the Petersburg sanitary sewer lines are in, and tap-ins will begin sometime in mid-June when pump stations and electrical lines are completed.

Waterlines being installed by Aqua Ohio in that area also will be completed June 15, but connections cannot be made until the line is extended to connect with the line at Unity and Garfield roads. Gas line work is expected to be completed by May 23.

Once all the underground lines are completed, new sidewalks will be installed.

In 2009, Phase II of the road improvement project will be done and will involve closing off the main Petersburg intersection for 83 days.

Orr said residents can call Paula Putnam of ODOT’s public information office at (330) 786-2209 with any additional questions.
