Pastoral anniversary

YOUNGSTOWN — Union Baptist Church, 528 Lincoln Ave., will mark the 13th anniversary of Pastor Michael H. Harrison Sr. during events next weekend. The theme will be “Cutting It Straight in 2008 — 2 Timothy 2:15.”

There will be an evening of praise, worship, dance and mime at 6 p.m. May 17. Pastor Roderick C. Pounds of Second Baptist Church, Akron, will speak at a service at 10:45 a.m. May 18.

Community Bible study

AUSTINTOWN — Community Bible Study, a 30-week interdenominational study, is accepting fall registration for the series planned from 9:15 to 11:15 a.m. Thursdays, starting Sept. 11, at Tabernacle Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 2432 S. Concert at coffee house

GIRARD — His Music Connection will sponsor a concert from 6 to 10 p.m. today at the coffee house located in the former Wellman Theater, 29 W. Liberty St. Purpose and Nothing Pure will play along with His Music Connection. The event includes free food and beverages.

Flame fellowship

BOARDMAN — Greater Youngstown Chapter of Flame Fellowship, an interdenominational ministry, will meet May 19 at Georgeanna Parker Activity Center in Boardman Township Park. Fellowship will begin at 6:30 p.m. with the ministry at 7. Guest speaker will be Gerri Vincent.

Rosary, Mass for guild

HUBBARD — Infant Jesus of Prague Guild will meet May 20 at St. Patrick Church, 367 N. Main St., for the rosary at 9:30 a.m. and Mass at 10.

Church anniversary

SHARON, Pa. — Cedar Avenue Church of God, 1045 Cedar Ave., will conduct a series of services Tuesday through May 18, in celebration of its 100th anniversary. Services will be at 7 p.m. Services also will be at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. May 18 and the morning service will be followed by a groundbreaking ceremony for the Family Life Center.

The theme is “100 Years of Walking by Faith in Purpose Towards Our Destiny.”

Singer at church

POLAND — Dan Schall of Zelionople, Pa., will offer music and testimony during services at 9 and 11 a.m. May 18 at Poland United Methodist Church, 1940 Boardman-Poland Road. Schall formed Dan Schall Ministries in 2001. For 30 years, he worked a full-time job in addition to giving some 125 concerts annually.

Mission speakers

AUSTINTOWN — First United Methodist Church of West Austintown, 6749 Mahoning Ave., will host Dan and Katy Beth Searls and family of Hungary, World Gospel Mission speakers, during worship at 9:45 a.m. May 18 and Sunday school at 11:15. They are Bible study, evangelism and discipleship leaders.

Healing drum circle

VILLA MARIA, Pa. — Villa Maria Education and Spirituality Center will hold a healing drum circle from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Villa Maria Community Center.

Pat Evans-Morris, a licensed mental health counselor, licensed chemical dependency counselor and national presenter of rhythm therapy and yoga seminars, will lead the program. She has taught drum therapy, dancing and the healing Arts for 27 years. It is an evening of drumming, chanting, healing, meditation and learning the ancient wisdom of the American Indian culture.

Rededication of organ

CANFIELD — Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 550 N. Broad St., will rededicate its parish organ during a recital at 3 p.m. May 18 by Tim L. Elder, church organist. The organ was donated to the church in memory of Martha and Will Hipple.

Elder, who has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music eduction from Youngstown State University, has worked as a music teacher for 25 years in Howland Local School District. He also sings in the choir at St. Columba Cathedral in Youngstown. Elder is a member of the Association of Lutheran Church Musicians, American Guild of Organists, Music Educator’s National Conference and Ohio Music Education.

Revival planned

YOUNGSTOWN — Pastor Wayne Johnson of Emmanuel Faith Center Church in Walnut Hill, Fla., will speak at a revival planned next week at We Walk By Faith Bible Church, 1636 Himrod Ave. Programs will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday through Friday. Roney Tucker is pastor.

Choir in concert

YOUNGSTOWN — The Grammy-nominated Central State University chorus will present a concert featuring gospel and contemporary selections at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at New Bethel Baptist Church, 1507 Hillman St. Though the concert is free, donations are being accepted to help defray expenses. The choir has selected the Youngstown/Warren area as a salute to Central State students and graduates.

Program on flowers

COLUMBIANA — Christ the King Anglican Church, 202 E. Park Ave., will hold a free tea and program at 1 p.m. May 28. Robert Myers of Roberta’s Gallery will present a flower arranging program on “Women of the Bible Told with Flowers.” There is limited space so reservations are required. Musical celebration

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — The fourth annual “Come, Christians, Join to Sing — A Musical Celebration” will be presented at 7 p.m. May 18 at First Presbyterian Church, 125 N. Jefferson St. The program of traditional gospel and contemporary Christian music, directed by Steve Pridon, will feature the Celebration Ringers and Singers, the Faithful Bells of Westfield Presbyterian Church, Sheet and Tube Brass Quartet with Susan Sexton, Brenda Romack, B.J. Bishop, J.C. Sherman, Dr. Raymond Hylton and Judith Hylton, soloists, and David Mikesell, percussionist. Free-will donations will go to the New Castle City Rescue Missions. After the concert, there will be a dessert reception in the church hall.

Kids to present program

DAMASCUS — The children of Damascus United Methodist Church, 300 Valley Road, will present the annual Kids in Service program during the worship service at 10:10 a.m. Sunday with the musical, “Jailhouse Rock.” Children will present each mother with a gift.

Music ministry

AUSTINTOWN — HeartSong, a ministry ensemble from Central Bible College, Springfield, Mo., will minister at 6 p.m. May 18 at Highway Tabernacle, 3000 S. Raccoon Road. The group, directed by Dr. Bonnie Jenkins, features 12 singers and eight instrumentalists.

Women’s Day weekend

WARREN — New Jerusalem Fellowship, 2555 Palymra Road, S.W., will celebrate its annual Women’s Day weekend with a luncheon May 17. A worship service at 10 a.m. May 18 will feature speaker Sherri H. Brogdon, executive assistant to Bishop Norman L. Wagner of Calvary Ministries International in Youngstown.

Men and Women’s Day

YOUNGSTOWN — Men’s and Women’s Day will be observed during the 11 a.m. service May 18 at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 707 Arlington St. Guest speaker will be Airicia Colley of the House of the Lord in Akron. The theme is “They That Sow in Tears, Shall Reap in Joy” (Psalm 126:5).

A musical presentation, “Travel the Gospel Road,” will be at 5 p.m. May 17.
