Humane Society to display adoptable pets
STAFF REPORT
SALEM — The Humane Society of Columbiana County will have adoptable cats and dogs, puppies and kittens from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at the Salem Wal-Mart. 2875 E. State St.
The society does not recommend giving a pet as a surprise gift. For those families who have made the decision to give a pet a lifelong home, representatives will be available to answer questions. For those families that already have pets, a gift of sponsorship can be purchased in the name of your choice.
Sponsorships help to defray the costs of adoption or spaying and neutering of a shelter pet, which make it affordable for a low-income family or senior citizen to adopt a beloved lifelong pet which is already vaccinated and spayed/neutered.
An adoption fee is collected in an effort to recoup the medical costs of providing these basic requirements to each pet, and to ensure a good home. Some of the adoption fees, according to the society’s Web site, are: Adult cats $75; kittens: $90; mixed breed dogs, $125; puppies: $140.
