Big day approaches for WFMJ Today Wedding Couple

YOUNGSTOWN — It all started as a joke, but with less than five days until tying the knot, WFMJ Today Wedding Couple Regan Cokain, 26, of Hermitage, Pa. and Steve Cheney, 35, of Mercer, Pa. are eager to walk down the aisle as “Mr. and Mrs.”

“When the station was still doing Valentine’s Day dates with [former weatherman] Frank Marzullo, I made it into the Top 10, so I was kidding around with Steve and bet him I could get us into the Top 7 for the wedding,” said Cokain.

Cokain and Cheney have been together since Dec. 21, 2006, and knew there was no turning back when the call came from the station that they were in the top three couples — out of hundreds of applicants.

Following the announcement of inalists on March 24, Cokain and her mother Beverly Cokain began petitioning for votes anywhere they could. “My mom was putting flyers up at the roller rink,” said Cokain. The duo distributed 3,000 flyers to people’s houses, cars in their church parking lot, and even on Marchelloni’s pizza boxes.

Their dedication paid off during voting week and the WFMJ Today Valley viewers choose Cokain and Cheney to be the seventh couple to be married live this Friday.
