Event to mark Israel’s 60th year

STAFF REPORT

YOUNGSTOWN — Youngstown Area Jewish Federation will mark the 60th anniversary of the birth of the state of Israel during a musical concert and community celebration at 7 tonight at the Ford Family Recital Hall of the DeYor Center for the Performing Arts.

The concert will feature Kolot Ort Band of Israel, a group of nine young singers and dancers who are traveling throughout the United States as part of the celebration.

The program will feature proclamations from officials from the U.S. Congress, Ohio State Legislature, city of Youngstown and council in honor the observance. Ohio Treasurer Richard Cordray is expected to attend.

Partnership 200, also known as the Partnership with Israel, was established in 1994 by United Jewish Communities of North America and the Jewish Agency for Israel. The organization connects some 550 communities around the world with Israeli communities in 44 such partnerships. Youngstown is part of the Central Area Consortium, which promotes people-to-people relationships among 14 Jewish communities in the United States and the Western Galilee region on the Mediterranean Sea in Israel through educational, cultural, social, medical and economic programs.

Dr. Leonard and Susan Kanterman are co-chairing the federation’s observance. For more information, contact Bonnie Deutsch Burdman, JCRC director, at (330) 770-8702.
