Unbeaten McDonald wins ITCL crown
Hubbard is alone atop the TAC standings.
McDONALD — The unbeaten McDonald High softball team clinched the Inter Tri-County League Tier Two title Tuesday with a 10-1 victory over Lowellville.
Kristin Tayala hit three singles, scored twice, stole a base and batted in a run for the Blue Devils (18-0, 16-0).
Alyssa Hutzler hit a pair of singles and drove in two runs while Jessica Ferraro hit two singles. Kaitlyn Rutshin (18-0) scattered three hits to pick up the win.
Cori Pavlicko of Lowellville set a school record (143 strkeouts) as she struck out four batters. The old record (142) was held by Carla Blinsky.
Boardman 22, Fitch 3
BOARDMAN — Jamie Massaro hit a grand slam, a double and two singles to drive in eight runs for the Spartans (12-6, 4-4 Federal League).
Sarah Maxwell had four singles and two RBIs while Shannon Morrow and Lizzie Padgitt doubled. Winning pitcher Kelsey Ford (7-5) struck out four and walked one.
For the Falcons (9-9, 3-5), Samantha Kozbial’s two hits included a homer. Kate Ferree also homered.
Poland 10, Campbell 0
CAMPBELL — Jessica D’Apolito (3-0) and Jordan Palumbo teamed up to toss a one-hitter for the Bulldogs (15-6, 8-2 Metro Athletic Conference).
Allie Patton, Jenna Barnhart, Nicole White and Emma Brenol doubled.
For Campbell (3-15, 1-9), Jamie Dolan singled in the fourth inning.
Howland 12, Salem 0
HOWLAND — Melanie Cope tossed a five-inning no-hitter, striking out six batters. She also doubled to drive in two runs.
Katie Peoples’ two hits drove in three runs while Rachel Bixler tripled and doubled to drive in three runners.
Amanda Delaquila and Jenna Debiec doubled while Tiffany Jacques and Gina Albani each had two hits.
Hubbard 12, Brookfield 2
HUBBARD — Kara Egelsky’s four hits drove in four runs for the Eagles (14-5, 11-1 Trumbull Athletic Conference). Two of her hits were doubles.
Jessica Lunt had three hits while Paige Seech tripled. Chelsea Callow and Ashley Bones doubled.
Winning pitcher Gabby Flynn tossed a two-hitter, striking out eight and walking two.
Friday, Hubbard plays at Champion to settle the TAC title.
For the Warriors (4-13, 0-13), Stephanie Van Meter tripled.
Lakeview 8, Champion 0
CHAMPION — Winning pitcher Abby Bensing (7-3) tossed a five-hitter, striking out 12 and walking three,
Brigitte Morvay’s two hits included a triple for the Bulldogs (12-6, 10-3 TAC). She had two RBIs. Mackenzie Palette’s two hits included a double to drive in three runs.
Champion pitcher Morgan White (8-4) struck out 12 and walked three. She also doubled as did Katie Saluga. Amanda Sain had two hits for the Golden Flashes (12-5, 10-2).
LaBrae 14, Girard 7
LEAVITTSBURG — Angelica Pugh went 5-for-5, with a double and four singles. She stole two bases and scored four times in leading LaBrae to the TAC victory.
The senior shortstop has a .565 batting average and went 11-of-12 in her last three outings.
Winning pitch Chelsie Hartman (5-8) hit three singles for the Vikings (9-12, 5-9).
Megan McCale of Girard hit a triple and Melissa Weitzman hit a double.
Mooney 7, St. Joseph Academy 6
BOARDMAN — The Cardinals (16-5) rallied for seven consecutive hits and four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to win.
Christina Hrehor and Cheryl Guyer had two hits for Mooney. Margo Ucchino and Hrehor doubled.
Kelcie Herberger (6-2) struck out 11 and walked one.
For St. Joseph (9-9), Lauren Kluth (4-5) took the loss and had three hits to drive in two runs.
Southeast 3, Norton 2
NORTON — The Pirates’ Shannon Hamilton pitched a three-hitter to remain unbeaten (13-0).
She also hit a triple and drove in two run for Southeast (17-3).
Danielle Kaley doubled.
