Stolen truck recovered in Youngstown
STAFF REPORT
LISBON — Youngstown police recovered a pickup truck about 10 a.m. Monday that had been stolen from the Columbiana County engineer’s office over the weekend.
The truck was discovered missing Monday. Columbiana County Engineer Bert Dawson said the 2007 GMC vehicle had a global positioning device, and the county was able to notify Youngstown police of its whereabouts.
The vehicle was found in the 400 block of Pasadena Avenue on Youngstown’s South Side.
The green truck had county engineer decals on both doors. Someone covered the decals with black paint but left the county license plates on the vehicle.
Dawson said someone entered an older pickup at the engineer’s garage that was parked under an awning on South Market Street here. Equipment was removed from the truck, but then left behind.
The thief then broke into another county building where the newer vehicles are kept and opened an overhead door that led to a fenced area.
To get to the street, the driver ran down about an eight-foot section of chain-link fence that put a dent in the front fender and scratched the paint.
