2 hurt in Route 62 crash

BROOKFIELD — Two men were injured, one seriously, in a two-car crash Tuesday morning near the Ohio-Pennsylvania line on U.S. Route 62.

The driver of one of the cars, Fred Davis, 74, of Masury, was in critical condition in St. Elizabeth Health Center late Tuesday. The other driver, Brian Hassel, 49, of Sharon, Pa., was released after treatment at Sharon Regional Health System.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said Davis was driving his car eastbound on Route 62 shortly before 8 a.m. He attempted to make a left turn on to Roberts Street and came into the path of Hassel’s westbound car. No charges have been filed as the crash remains under investigation, the patrol said.

Warren man is stabbed

WARREN — A 36-year-old Warren man remains hospitalized after he said he was stabbed by a friend’s former girlfriend.

Christopher L. Hamner, of East Market Street, said he was at his friend’s Elm Road residence about 11:15 p.m. Monday when the woman tried to smoke crack cocaine. Hamner said he was leaving when she “snapped,” went to the kitchen, got a knife and stabbed him in the chest, left arm and face. He’s being treated at Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital.

Police reported recovering a bread knife with blood on the blade. No charges have been filed.

Waste district open house

WARREN – The Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste Management District and Trumbull Soil and Water Conservation District will have an open house at the solid waste district facility, 5138 Enterprise Blvd., from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today.

The free event is a kickoff to the solid waste district’s household hazardous waste collection. Information on how to manage household waste and pollution prevention will be available. Items commonly needing proper disposal include paint and household chemicals such as cleaning supplies and fertilizer.

Open house for Dawson

LISBON — There will be an public open house and reception celebrating Columbiana County Engineer Bert Dawson’s being named the urban county engineer of the year for 2007 by the National Association of County Engineers.

The open house will be from noon to 4 p.m. Friday at the county engineer’s office, 235 S. Market St.

Dawson is both a professional engineer and professional surveyor.

The award is also given annually by the NACE to a rural county engineer. They are considered the top national awards for county engineers.
