Thunder lose fifth straight, 77-47, to Pioneers at Chevy Centre
A near record-setting performance by Thunder fullback Tim Murphy wasn’t enough for Mahoning Valley to avoid a fifth straight loss, falling to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 77-47 at Cortland Banks Field in the Chevrolet Centre.
The Pioneers have beat the Thunder four straight times. The lone bright spot for Mahoning Valley was the play of Tim Murphy. The second year player came within 3 yards of breaking the af2 record for most rushing yards in a game. The record of 96 yards was set by Kenyatta Spruill of Charleston on July 14, 2001. Murphy churned his way to 94 yards, on just seven carries, two of which went for scores.
