South Side man tries to hit cop with car
YOUNGSTOWN — A Volney Road man who still has two years supervised release to do in a federal drug case is now accused of trying to run over a police officer.
Djuan Kimbrough, 31, was arraigned today in municipal court on charges of felonious assault on a police officer, aggravated menacing, failure to comply with a police order and resisting arrest.
Judge Robert A. Douglas Jr. set bond at $47,500 and preliminary and pre-trial hearings for May 12.
Patrolman P.J. Chance stopped the 2008 Pontiac Kimbrough was driving late Saturday on the East Side and told the driver his license plates were expired. The officer told Kimbrough, who didn’t have his driver’s license on him, to step out of the car but Kimbrough mentioned his federal supervised release and refused, reports show.
Kimbrough accelerated in reverse toward Chance’s cruiser, and the officer ordered Kimbrough at gunpoint to stop. Instead, Kimbrough threw the car into drive and tried to run the officer over, reports show.
Chance jumped to the ground and rolled to avoid being hit and Kimbrough drove off at a high rate of speed, police said.
