Orwell woman dies in 1-car crash in Fowler Township

FOWLER — A 21-year-old Orwell woman was killed and her 21-year-old passenger was injured in a single-car accident on state Route 193 (Youngstown-Kingsville Road) at 6:04 p.m. today.

The driver, Christi R. Novicki, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Heather R. Hileman, also of Orwell, the front-seat passenger, was injured and taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center, where she remained late tonight. The Ohio State Highway Patrol post in Southington said her injuries were moderate.

The OSP reported the accident occurred just north of Cadwallader-Sonk Road when the vehicle, a 1994 Ford Tempo, traveling north, went off the right side of the road and into a ditch. The vehicle then struck a drainage culvert and a utility pole.

Troopers said both women were using their automatic shoulder safety belt but not the manual lap safety belt. The crash remains under investigation.
