Father faces trial on charge he let his daughter die in the cold

PITTSBURGH (AP) — A trial is set to begin in Pittsburgh for a father accused of killing his 23-month-old daughter by leaving her outside in the freezing cold.

A trial for William Lorenzo Page is to begin Monday. Page could face the death penalty if convicted.

In February 2007, Nyia Miangel Page’s abandoned body was found in a wooded area walking distance from the family’s home. She had been reported missing the previous morning. Police say tiny footprints in the snow suggest Nyia walked around before she died.

Police say Page kicked Nyia in the groin when she kept taking off her diaper. They say Page then took Nyia outside and left her in the wooded area to die in freezing temperatures.
