Monday's Best Bets on TV

“Bones” (8 p.m., Fox): On a new episode of “Bones,” Brennan’s father, Max (Ryan O’Neal), is put on trial for the alleged murder of FBI Deputy Director Robert Kirby, and the entire Jeffersonian team, excluding Brennan, are called to be expert witnesses for the prosecution.

“How I Met Your Mother” (8:30 p.m., CBS): “Scrubs” star Sarah Chalke returns as — guess who? — a funny doctor.

“American Experiences” (9 p.m., PBS): Tonight’s installment of “American Experiences” takes us back to the 1980s for a look at the first President Bush. The two-part profile, “George H.W. Bush,” traces the life and career of the Massachusetts native who, before winning the presidency, served as a U.S. congressman, ambassador to the United Nations, director of the CIA, and vice president under Ronald Reagan.

“Two and a Half Men” (9 p.m., CBS): How’s this for a very strange job-swap? Writers from the dark crime drama “CSI” have penned this week’s episode of “Two and a Half Men,” while scribes from that loopy sitcom have written this week’s episode of “CSI.” Not sure what to expect, except this: George Eads of “CSI” is making a cameo appearance in “Men” tonight.

“Confessions of a Free Woman” (9 p.m., Sundance Channel): A filmmaker turns the camera on herself and her friends around the world as they struggle for independence over a three-year period.

“Life’s a Trip” (11 p.m., Travel): Armed with a list of places to see and things to do, host Andrew Anthony takes viewers along for the ride in this new series, airing back-to-back episodes each Monday. He begins the trek in Kobe, Japan, sampling a $700 steak, then heads to New Zealand to observe a traditional Maori tribal dance.
