Attorney General Hires: Oops, he did it again

ATTORNEY GENERAL HIRES

Oops, he did it again

Since becoming attorney general in January 2007, Marc Dann has made some poor hires. Here’s the rundown:

He fired ex-Youngstown police Detective Sgt. Rick Alli as his chief of law enforcement operations in April 2007 after claiming Alli was improperly taking two salaries and had never officially retired from the Youngstown force.

He fired David L. Nelson of Liberty as his deputy security director in May 2007 after it was discovered Nelson was convicted in 1976 of involuntary manslaughter.

He fired Anthony Gutierrez of Liberty on Friday as director of general services, who created a “hostile work environment,” according to an internal AG office investigation into charges of sexual harassment leveled against him by two female subordinates.

Dann fired Leo Jennings III of Poland as his communications director Friday because the investigation determined Jennings urged a female attorney in the office to not be truthful when questioned.

He accepted the resignation Thursday of Edgar Simpson, formerly of Warren, because of his failure to stop improper conduct by management employees.
