NFL ROUNDUP | News and notes

Cardinals: Anquan Boldin says it’s news to him that he’s unhappy and wants out of Arizona. To the contrary, the two-time Pro Bowl wide receiver says he wants to remain with the Cardinals and is not upset that he has yet to get a new contract on par with teammate Larry Fitzgerald. “I’ve always wanted to be in Arizona,” Boldin said Friday, the first day of the Cardinals’ mini-camp. “This is the only place I’ve known professionally. I don’t want to uproot my family and leave. I’m happy here. I have great rapport with everybody around here, coaches included.” Boldin did sit out Friday’s workouts because of a sore hamstring, but said it had nothing to do with any dissatisfaction over his contract. Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt repeated the team’s intention to sign Boldin to a new contract. “We’ve said to Anquan as well as publicly that we fully intend to redo his contract the first window that we have,” Whisenhunt said. “We’ve made efforts to do that and it just hasn’t worked out.”

Bengals: Cincinnati signed eight college free agents to two-year contracts Friday and invited several other unsigned players to tryouts at this weekend’s minicamp for rookies. The college free agents under contract are guard James Blair, Western Michigan; guard-center Justin Britt, Alabama; cornerback Simeon Castille, Alabama; halfbacks Bradley Glatthaar, Cincinnati, and James Johnson, Kansas State; linebacker Anthony Hoke, Cincinnati; defensive tackle Michael Marquardt, Arizona State; and fullback Tyler Whaley, Ohio State.

Colts: Receiver Marvin Harrison was interviewed by police about a shooting near his North Philadelphia bar this week. Lt. Frank Vanore said the investigation of Tuesday’s shooting was continuing. Harrison has not been arrested or charged. “He was interviewed,” Vanore said Friday. “Why he was interviewed, that is all part of the investigation. No one is a suspect.” Radio station WIP, citing unidentified sources, reported the alleged shooting victim argued with Harrison at Playmakers bar. The victim left and headed to his car, Harrison followed and gunfire broke out, the station reported. The alleged victim was shot in the hand and did not identify the shooter, according to the radio station.

Ravens: Kyle Boller spent five years working his way to the top of Baltimore’s’ depth chart. He was named the starting quarterback when he was too young to handle the pressure, battled through injuries in 2003 and 2005, and served the past two years as a dutiful backup to Steve McNair. As a reward, the Ravens picked Delaware quarterback Joe Flacco in the first round of the 2008 NFL draft and general manager Ozzie Newsome promptly labeled him “the guy to lead our football team into the future.” Boller was on the golf course when the pick was made. He received the news by text message. “I was pretty prepared for it. It’s one of those deals. I was one of those guys five years ago,” Boller said Friday. “I’m happy for him. It’s a special time for him, and I think it’s going to be a lot of fun.” Boller and Troy Smith handled all the quarterback duties at minicamp this week, but the competition for the starting job will heat up next Friday when Flacco joins the fray at a mandatory camp.
