Church prepares to serve dinners
YOUNGSTOWN — First Calvary Baptist Church, 126 E. Wood St., will serve dinners of baked or fried chicken, greens or green beans with potatoes, corn bread or dinner roll, dessert, and salad from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. The cost is $7 for adults and $3.50 for children 10 and under. Takeouts are available.

Cinco de Mayo dance will be at OCCHA Hall
YOUNGSTOWN — The Mexican Society of Youngstown will have a dance commemorating Cinco de Mayo from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. May 10 at the OCCHA Hall, 3660 Shirley Road.
Singles are encouraged to attend this adults-only event.
There will be a band, Grupo la Marca, for dancing, and Mexican food and drink will be available. No carry-ins are allowed. Admission is $15 at the door.

Final Historical society program on POW camps
MERCER, Pa. — Mercer County Civil War Roundtable, an affiliate of Mercer County Historical Society, 119 S. Pitt St., will present “Hell in a Small Place: Andersonville and Johnson Island Prisoner of War Camps” on May 13 as its final program of the season.
Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., and the program will begin at 7 with Jim Carnes as facilitator for the discussion.
The Civil War Discussion Group will resume regular meetings on Sept. 9. Meetings are the second Tuesday of each month from September through May, and participation is free and open to the public. For more information, call the historical society at (724) 662-3490.
Associated Neighborhoods fundraiser will be in May
YOUNGSTOWN — Associated Neighborhood Centers will host an annual meeting and fundraiser dinner May 30 at McGuffey Centre, 1649 Jacobs Road. Featured will be a membership kick-off and silent auction at 5:30 p.m. followed by a dinner at 6.
The theme for the event is “Strengthening the Family in Uncertain Times,” and the keynote speaker will be Youngstown Mayor Jay Williams.
During the past year, ANC has provided a total of 8,294 hours of services to 1,041 senior and 786 youths, focusing on such things as health and wellness classes, computer classes, computer giveaways, HIV-AIDS prevention, parent information and social activities.

Caravan Club sets rally
CANFIELD — A regional rally of the Walley Byum Caravan Club has been scheduled for May 20 through May 25 at Canfield Fairgrounds. Club members are owners of recreational vehicles manufactured by the Airstream Company.
The Mahoning Valley Ohio Unit is host group for the event, which will include dinners, entertainment and tours of area attractions.

Ethnic groups invited to participate in festival
YOUNGSTOWN — Ethnic groups throughout the Valley are being invited to participate in a Summer Festival of the Arts to take place July 12 and 13 on the campus of Youngstown State University.
The festival will highlight the Valley’s diverse ethnic populations through an array of food, displays, presentations, and musical or dance performances.
Each ethnic group must be a member of a church, synagogue or established club or organization, and one representative group from each culture is generally accepted.
Ethnic groups will receive a tent, tables and chairs, media promotion, inclusion in a health department license application, and free parking for volunteers. Each performing group will receive $100. Each group will pay a nominal fee based on food and memorabilia sales.
