BOARDMAN — Boardman High School senior Bryan Whitaker will attend Youngstown State Univ. where he will play football.
At Boardman Whitaker won three letters in football and four in wrestling.
McCartney makes pick
YOUNGSTOWN — Ursuline High School senior Nick McCartney will attend Notre Dame College in Euclid where he will play basketball.
A three-year starter and four-year letterman for the Irish, the 5-foot-7 McCartney signed a letter of intent to attend the NAIA Div. III school on a basketball scholarship.
McCartney averaged 21 points, six assists, four steals and four rebounds last season for Ursuline.
BW gets Carmichael
GIRARD — Aaron Carmichael, a standout offensive guard and co-captain for the Girard High football team last season as a senior, will attend Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea where he will resume his football career.
Carmichael (6-1, 285), the son of Alvin and Jeannette Wallace, plans to study biology and would like go become an orthopedic surgeon.
Playing for coach Bud McSuley at Girard, Carmichael was selected to the All-Trumbull Athletic Conference first team.
Delegates meeting set
BOARDMAN —The Greater Youngstown Bowling Association’s annual delegates meeting will be May 14 at Amron Lanes at 7 p.m.
The agenda will include review of by-laws of the GYBA and to elect officers for upcoming years.
Anyone interested in becoming a director must submit their application no later than 10 days before the delegates meeting. No nomination will come from the floor at the meeting.

Howard is MVP
WASHINGTON, Pa. — Outfielder Amanda Howard of Washington Jefferson College was named the MVP on the Presidents’ Athletic Conf. all-star softball team.
The coach of the year was Nicole Vitello of Washington Jefferson.

LSU boots Perrilloux
BATON ROUGE, La. — Ryan Perrilloux seemed like a perfect fit for LSU.
The Louisiana native had the rocket arm, mobility and versatility to make him a constant big-play threat and one of the most sought-after quarterback prospects in the country coming out of high school. He even had the French last name.
In spurts as a backup or fill-in starter last season, the sophomore showed the potential to rise to stardom, winning MVP honors in the Tigers’ Southeastern Conference championship game triumph over Tennessee.
Flying Pig weekend
CINCINNATI — It’s pig time in Cincinnati. Flying Pig marathon, that is.
More than 20,000 people are expected to take part in the 10th annual event today. Organizers say that makes it one of the largest running events in the nation.
Early risers may have an advantage. The race kicks off at 6:30 a.m., and there are contests at several different distances, even a separate category for people who just want to walk the route.

Maccabi, CSKA gain Euro final
MADRID, Spain — Maccabi Tel Aviv overcame an 18-point, second-quarter deficit to beat Montepaschi Siena 92-85 Friday and reach the Euroleague basketball final against CSKA Moscow.
The Russian club earned a third straight trip to the final, getting 16 points apiece from David Anderson and Ramunas Siskaukus to outlast Tau Ceramica of Spain 83-79 and give Italian coach Ettore Messina a chance at a third Euroleague crown.
