South Side search turns up drugs, guns

YOUNGSTOWN — A search warrant used to enter 384 Chicago Ave. on the South Side turned up guns and illegal drugs.
On Thursday afternoon, members of the Vice Squad seized a loaded assault rifle found under a bed and a loaded .357-caliber Magnum under a jacket on the couch, reports show. Also taken were two bulletproof vests, a bag of unidentified white powder, a bag of suspected marijuana, $306 and a holster that contained a .40-caliber magazine.
Police arrested the renter, Derrick D. Davis, 40, on an outstanding warrant for his failure to appear in municipal court on a loud music charge from 2004. More charges could be filed after the prosecutor reviews the search.
Police arrested a woman on the property, Brittney D. Justice, 20, of South Heights, on an outstanding Mahoning County warrant for a probation violation in a operating a vehicle impaired case from 2006 in Beaver Township and a new charge of possession of marijuana, records show. Police said the suspected marijuana was in her purse.
Davis and Justice were expected to be arraigned today in municipal court.
