Canfield 6, Struthers 0

CANFIELD — Canfield’s Melissa West went 2-for-3 with an over-the-fence homer and Tricia Bettura used strong pitching (four-hit shutout) and hitting (single, double, two RBIs) to lift the Cardinals (14-3-1, 9-0 Metro Athletic Conference). Bianca Biondillo added two hits. Dominique Martinko, Ashley Baron, Sam Ditman and Dana Mathews singled for Struthers.

Poland 7, Howland 0

POLAND — Ten players batted as the Bulldogs (13-6, 5-2 MAC) scored five runs in the fifth inning , including a two-run double by Allyson Kennedy. Senior Liz Maher (6-5) pitched a complete game with six strikeouts and she hit a double and single. Jenna Medina and Jenna Barnhart each hit a pair of singles. Losing pitcher Melanie Cope hit a double and single for the Tigers (11-11, 5-4).

Salem 7, Campbell 4

CAMPBELL — Kate Kibler pitched a seven-hitter and struck out eight while Jordan Hissom and Kate Melloy each had two singles to lead Salem, which scored four runs in the fifth to take control. Seniors Karyssa Opencar and Jamie Dolan each had two hits for Campbell (3-13, 1-7) on Senior Night. Juniors Erica Melnik and LaTonia Butler also had two hits.

Niles 5, Lakeview 4

CORTLAND — Larissa Cantola had two hits, including a two-run triple in a four-run fifth inning for Niles. Lindsey Dodgson was the winning pitcher for the Red Dragons (8-10). Mackenzie Palette (5-3) allowed only five hits and registered 15 strikeouts for Lakeview. Palette, Jessica Downs and Brigitte Morvay had two hits apiece for the Bulldogs (11-6). Palette’s and Downs’ hits including a double.

Youngstown Christian 15, East 6

YOUNGSTOWN — Sophomore Ashley Gonda had a triple and two singles and freshman Erica Ortiz had a double and two singles for Youngstown Christian. Also for the Eagles (6-8), sophomore Sara Bell had a triple and single and junior Katie Hartman had three singles. Sophomore Summer Lucky’s four-hitter included eight strikeouts.

GlenOak 8, Fitch 3

CANTON — GlenOak built an 8-0 lead before the Falcons finally scored three times in the seventh inning. Fitch (8-7, 3-4 Federal) was led by Katie O’Loughlin who had a double, single and two RBIs, while Carly Ortz, Jena Baun and Alyssa Jones all added two singles.

Western Reserve 11, Lowellville 2

LOWELLVILLE — Elizabeth Srock pitched a five-hitter with 16 strikeouts while Melisa Burky had four RBIs to pace Western Reserve. Amanda Majirsky had two RBIs and Kailyn Mowery and Brittany Boyer one RBI apiece to help the Blue Devils. Ashley Harkleroad had two singles and one RBI to lead Lowellville.

Champion 5, Girard 3

CHAMPION — The Indians (6-12, 2-9) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, but the Golden Flashes (11-4, 9-1) took the lead for keeps as they scored four runs in the bottom of the third inning in the Trumbull Athletic Conference contest. Amanda Sain (4-1) of Champion scattered four hits with four strikeouts to pick up the win. Megan McCale, in a losing cause, allowed only five hits and she struck out five. Nicole Weaver hit a double for the Golden Flashes, while Melissa Weitzman and Kristin Helle had two hits apiece for the Indians.

LaBrae 6, Liberty 1

LEAVITTSBURG — Angelica Pugh went 3-for-4 with two triples, three runs and an RBI to lead LaBrae (7-11, 4-7). Courtney Aldridge, Amanda Witherow and Erica Stratakis each had two singles and an RBI, while Chelsie Hartman struck out seven to pick up the win. Melissa Dykes tripled and Katie Greaf doubled for Liberty.

Maplewood 5, Bristol 0

CORTLAND — Cheyenne Torton doubled and drove in two runs for the Rockets (12-4). Brandy Dunbar’s two hits included a double. Winning pitcher Amanda Peska struck out six batters.

Southeast 11, Rootstown 1

ROOTSTOWN — The Pirates (15-3, 6-2) scored five runs in the first inning and four in the fourth in cruising to the victory in the Portage Trail Conference contest. Shannon Hamilton 10-0) allowed only two hits in picking up the win. Alyssa Bilta hit a double and drove in three runs, while Hamilton hit three singles and Ali Austin two. Brandi Miller hit a pair of singles for Rootstown.

Wednesday

Maplewood 5, Southington 0

SOUTHINGTON — Emily Paris homered and doubled to drive in all five runs for the Rockets (11-4). Tarra Snyder doubled while winning pitcher Amanda Peska struck out seven batters and walked one. Taylor Cooper struck out seven and walked three for the Wildcats.
