Above, pupils in Cecelia Lange’s third-grade class at Struthers Elementary school get a lesson in “buck-o-nomics” from Home Savings employees as part of American Bankers Association Education Foundation’s “Teach Children to Save” program. From the bank’s Struthers office are, from left, Patty Wilson, new account manager; Deanna Fulytar, account representative; and in the Buck outfit is Diane Booth, head teller. Home Savings employees joined thousands of bankers across the country this week who traded in their balance sheets for blackboards to help fill the need for financial education. The presentation included games and activities about the concept of saving, how interest makes money grow, how to budget and determining needs and wants. At right is Candace Szabo, a third-grader. She marked down the cost of owning a hamster as Big Buck watched over her shoulder. The exercise taught economics and savings.
