“Speed Racer: The Next Generation” (7 p.m., Nicktoons): Nicktoons Network is launching “Speed Racer: The Next Generation” with a 90-minute opener. Based on the classic kids’ show that debuted 30 years ago, this new series follows Speed Racer’s son, Speed, after he arrives at the Racing Academy. With his new friends Lucy, Conor and Conor’s robot monkey, Speed must learn to balance studying and racing, while avoiding the evil schemes of oil tycoon Zile Zazic and his racer daughter Annalise. Meanwhile, Speed and his pals try to solve the mystery of his father’s disappearance. And he discovers his father’s schematics for a revolutionary gasless engine, which will power the car he builds, the Mach 6 — the ultimate racing machine.

“Moonlight” (9 p.m., CBS): Things get extra creepy on a new episode of “Moonlight” when a Hollywood star is murdered after she hires Mick as part of her security detail.

“Man vs. Wild” (9 p.m., Discovery Channel): The host tackles the frigid Siberian tundra, braves South Africa’s flash floods and faces India’s ring of fire. Thank goodness there’s a good hotel room near all of it for him to relax in.

“Ringo Starr: Off the Record” (11 p.m., HBO): The Beatles drummer talks with fellow musician Dave Stewart about the iconic band and its musical influences and breakup in this 55-minute special. Starr also discusses his childhood and solo career, then picks up the drumsticks to re-create riffs from Beatles songs for a studio audience.
