Mooney 3, Warren JFK 2
BOARDMAN — Mooney rallied from a 2-0 deficit to upend the Eagles and take sole possession of first place in the Steel Valley Conference. The Cardinals (14-4, 4-0) scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on a two-run homer by Christina Hrehor (which also scored Katie Hughes) and a solo shot by Meghan Williams. Freshman Jamie Clausen (5-1) pitched a complete game with five strikeouts to pick up the win. Hrehor also hit a single, while Chrissy Porter hit a pair of singles. Rachel Pico (7-2) worked a complete game with four strikeouts and Rachael Ratcliffe hit a pair of singles for the Eagles (14-3, 4-1). Also for JFK, sophomore Kim Sylvester homered, while Alex Raeburn and Ali Rossi each had two singles. Mooney, which won the SVC title in 2006 and shared it with Warren JFK and Ursuline last year, can win it again outright if it beats Warren Harding next Wednesday at Packard Park at 5 p.m.
Massillon Jackson 8, Boardman 1
MASSILLON — Kayla Ashbrook and Maddy Richards each had a triple for Jackson (13-2, 5-1 Federal). Also for the Polar Bears, Abbey Schory had three singles and two RBIs, while Shelbi Howington had three singles and one RBI. Howington (5-1) also pitched. Lizzie Padgitt had a double and single and drove in the only run for Boardman (10-6, 3-4 Federal). The Spartans stranded six runners.
Poland 17, Salem 0
SALEM — A 10-run fourth inning by the Bulldogs (12-6) put the game out reach. Allie Patton hit a grand slam and also hit a RBI single and scored twice. Winning pitch Liz Maher hit a double and single, while Jordan Palumbo hit three singles and Jenna Barnhart hit a pair of singles and scored twice.
Struthers 5, Niles 3
STRUTHERS — Ashley Baron pitched the victory and added two hits including a home run. Dom Martino added two hits for the Wildcats (15-6, 6-3 MAC). Jessica Berringer had a home run and Megan McDermott added three hits for Niles.
Howland 11, Campbell 0
HOWLAND — Melanie Cope and Ashley Yassall combined to pitch a one-hit shutout against Campbell, striking out nine batters. Amanda Delaquila and Abby Nicholas each had two doubles, while Rachel Bixler added two singles for the Tigers (11-10).
South Range 6, Columbiana 5
COLUMBIANA — With Columbiana’s tying run on second base with one out in the seventh inning, South Range center fielder Cadi Sheffler went back, then fell down, yet still caught the ball to help preserve the Raiders’ lead. A flyout to third base followed to end the game. Senior Autumn Carter had three hits including a double and two RBIs, junior Chelsea Leson had two singles and an RBI and freshman Tabathia Stanton had two singles and an RBI for South Range (9-7, 5-5 ITCL Tier One). Amanda Prowl had three hits including a triple and Alexis Wyatt had two hits including a double for Columbiana (11-8, 4-6 ITCL).
Western Reserve 7, Lowellville 1
BERLIN CENTER — Brittany Boyer pitched a two-hitter with nine strikeouts for Western Reserve, which scored five runs in the first inning. Boyer (5-3) was backed by Ellie Sanders with two singles and one RBI and Angela Thomas with two singles. Cori Pavlicko pitched a nine-hitter and struck out eight for the Rockets. Shawna McDowell belted a homer for McDonald.
McDonald 2, Leetonia 1
MCDONALD — Winning pitcher Kaitlin Rutushin scored the game-winner in the eighth in an Inter Tri-County League Tier Two game. Rutushin singled to lead off the inning, then moved to second on a passed ball and reached third on Kirsten Tayla’s sac bunt. She scored on an infield single by Ferraro. McDonald (16-0, 12-0) has clinched a tie for the league title and can win it outright against Lowellville Monday. McDonald trailed 1-0 entering the seventh but Jessica Ferraro’s double, Sarah Ingall’s sacrifice bunt and Andrea Robison’s single tied the game.
Jackson-Milton 23, Southern 4
SALINEVILLE — Sophomore Cat Keck had three doubles and a triple for five RBIs, while sophomore Chelsea DeBolt had a triple and two singles for five RBIs to lead Jackson-Milton (6-9, 6-6 ITCL Tier Two). Sophomore Taylor Dugan added a three-run homer, junior Kim Keener had three singles and an RBI and junior Katelynn Pirko had two singles for the Blue Jays. Sophomore Lyndsey Knipp had 10 strikeouts and walked one during a four-hitter. Marla Pitts had a two-run double in the third inning for Southern.
Hubbard 2, Lakeview 1
HUBBARD — Karrie Durina reached on an error and eventually scored the game-winning run on a single by Michelle Stipetich and another error in the bottom of the sixth inning to help the Eagles win a key Trumbull Athletic Conference game. Kara Egelsky pitched a four-hitter with five strikeouts for Hubbard (13-5, 10-1), while Gabby Flynn added a double and two singles and Jessica Lunt had two singles. Brigitte Morvay had two hits for Lakeview (11-4, 9-3), which had a runner on second with one out in the seventh but couldn’t score. The Bulldogs had five errors. Abbey Bensing struck out 13 in a losing effort.
Liberty 2, Girard 0
GIRARD — Ashley Hackett’s two-run single in the second inning accounted for Liberty’s only runs, while teammate Allison House had a three-hitter with nine strikeouts and no walks. Sara Dutton added two singles for the Leopards. Sophomore Missy Weitzman had two hits, while senior Megan McGowan doubled for Girard (6-11, 3-7 TAC).
Champion 7, Newton Falls 2
NEWTON FALLS — Nicole Weaver had three hits, including a homer, and Jessica Frantz added two doubles and three RBIs for Champion (10-4, 8-1 TAC). Taylor Petersal pitched a three-hitter with nine strikeouts to get the win. Blain Chapman struck out six in a losing effort for the Tigers (7-11, 7-5).
Yo. Christian 13, Sts. John-Paul 2
YOUNGSTOWN — A seven-run second inning gave the Eagles (5-8, 4-2) a 8-0 lead and they cruised to the victory in the Suburban League contest. Sara Bell hit a home run and Erica Ortiz hit a double and single and scored three times for Youngstown Christian. Kristi Cooper hit a single and scored three times.

McDonald 2, Leetonia 0
LEETONIA — Kaitlin Rutushin pitched a one-hitter and set a school career strikeout record of 188 for the Blue Devils. The old mark of 187 was set by Tracey Logar in 1999. Sarah Ingalls hit a home run for McDonald in the fourth inning, and the Blue Devils scored an insurance run in the seventh inning.
