Police get conflicting accounts of shooting

STAFF REPORT

WARREN — Investigators are trying to figure out whom to believe in the shooting of a 47-year-old Warren man at his home.

James E. Datson of Second Street Southwest remains in the intensive care unit of Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital, where he is being treated for a bullet wound of the stomach.

Detective Wayne Mackey said witnesses have given him several stories as to how Datson was wounded about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. Datson can’t be interviewed because of his physical condition.

Police were called to the hospital after a neighbor had taken him there, Mackey said. Police took Datson’s clothing as evidence.

Mackey said that Datson’s girlfriend, Kathleen McMillan, of the same address, was charged with obstructing official business.

According to the police report, McMillan was caught in several lies about what happened and refused to cooperate.

She was arraigned Wednesday before municipal Judge Thomas Gysegem, who scheduled a pretrial hearing for June 26. She was released after posting a $1,500 personal bond and pleading innocent to the charge.
