Boardman plans extra patrols for prom weekend

BOARDMAN — Township police will be supplementing their regular patrols this weekend with high-visibility patrols because of prom.

According to Mothers Against Drunk Driving, or MADD, teens are more at risk during prom season than at any other time of year. Statistics show that traffic deaths among teens are highest during prom season weekends.

As the department wants to encourage students to celebrate without drugs or alcohol, officers will be targeting all violators for aggressive driving offenses and Operating Vehicle while Impaired (OVI)-related violations including underage drinking.

Funding fro the patrols is provided by the Mahoning County OVI Task Force and the Ohio Department of Public Safety.
